Filipino-American grandmaster Wesley So cruised to the semifinals of the online 2020 Clutch Chess International early Tuesday (Manila time) after a 13-5 win over top French player Maxime Vachier-Lagrave. 7 seed So took clutch games 11 and 12 worth 3 points each to dominate No. 8, is looking to repeat his victory in the inaugural US Clutch Chess Champions Showdown just over a week ago, wherein he stunned world No. 3 seed Leinier Dominguez-Perez, another US chess star, in the semifinals of the tournament with a total prize fund of $265,000 (over P13 million). The tourney awards a bonus of $2,000 (nearly P100,000) to the winner in clutch games 5 and 6, worth 2 points each, and $3,000 (nearly P150,000) to the victor in clutch games 11 and 12.
