This was implied in the now ironically headlined 2018 New York Times profile of her, Ellen DeGeneres Is Not as Nice as You Think, which was about how bored DeGeneres was with being pigeonholed as nice (well, at least you are not bored any more, Ellen). DeGeneres has long said she is not as nice as people think – hell, she made a whole Netflix special saying exactly that.
