Crews are out across the province clearing roads and sidewalks after a storm blanketed Nova Scotia in up to 40 centimetres of snow overnight and into Thursday morning. The snow prompted all schools to cancel classes for the day, and several universities have closed or delayed opening this morning. In Halifax, two separate water main breaks shut down traffic early Thursday morning and disrupted water service to two Halifax neighbourhoods. A full analysis of the system is needed to identify what caused the breaks, Halifax Water spokesman Jake Fulton told CBC News. Another five centimetres of snow is possible for mainland Nova Scotia on Thursday, with another 10 to 20 centimetres possible in Cape Breton, according to CBC meteorologist Tina Simpkin.
