(File photo)Heavy snow is forecast in the South Island for the start of the week, hitting Otago and the Canterbury high country. A Metservice statement said a cold front was expected to hit the South Island on Sunday night, with snow lowering to 200 metres in eastern Otago and Canterbury on Monday and Tuesday. Snow could reach as low as 400m in Dunedin, North Otago, Central Otago and the Canterbury high country. Gales could become severe around the south coast of the South Island, including Stewart Island.
