‌When the SNP MP Dave Doogan pointed out that he was present, Mr Stone offered a gentlemanly apology to the MP for Angus and Perthshire Glens. He said: "I think it is only fair that I offer an abject apology to the hon. ‌The MP pointed out that Police Scotland runs a national licensing unit, which "consistently outperforms forces in England and Wales" on licensing times. Mr Doogan said: "I say that not as a cheap political point but because, quite clearly, if we centralise, standardise and properly resource the licensing regime, we will see substantial improvements in turnaround times." However, an application for a firearms license also needs input from the applicant's GP and Mr Doogan went on to criticise the primary care system in Scotland under the SNP.
