Snakes threaten farming in Gombe communities amid antivenom scarcity


Chima AzubuikeThe farming activities of forty-year-old farmer, Ando Ngai, an indigene of Kaltungo, Gombe State, have been disrupted amid fear of snakebites. She said, “If one is not fast and smart, one will be bitten by snakes. “The fear of being bitten by snakes is affecting the quality of our farming and production. No one wants to be bitten by snakes so we are now extremely careful. The pigs delightfully eat snakes and because of the thick fatty layer of the pigs, it can’t be eaten, even the snake venom will not penetrate the pigskin.
