In a surprise cabinet reshuffle just a day before the all-important Karnataka election results , Smriti Irani has been removed from the post of Minister of Information & Broadcasting. Rajyavardhan Rathore who was junior minister in the I&B Ministry has been given a promotion. Also Piyush Goyal, has been additional charge of Finance Ministry till the time Arun Jaitley is recuperating from a kidney ailment. The communique said Railways Minister Goyal will "temporarily" handle the Finance and Corporate Affairs ministries till Arun Jaitley recovers from his kidney transplant. Alphons Kannanthanam has been relieved as Minister of State in the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology.
