Share TweetBy Aaron RecuencoDespite the high cost of cigarette and a presidential order banning smoking in public places, smokers continue to ignore the smoking ban resulting in the arrest of 174, 440 since June last year. Director Guillermo Eleazar, head of the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO), said smoking violators top the list of those arrested for violating various ordinances in Metro Manila, about 25 percent of the 709,515 arrested violators. Minors violating curfew, on the other hand, come second with 43,391 arrested since June 13 last year. Of those arrested, 65.3 percent were reprimanded while 20.8 percent were fined, according to Eleazar.
