Australia beat New Zealand by 68 runs in the first ODI against New Zealand at the Sydney Cricket Ground to take 1-0 lead in the three-match series on Sunday . The Aussies stuttered at the start, struggling at 92 for 4 in 20.1 overs. But, powered by a brilliant knock from Steven Smith (164), Australia scored 324 for 8 in 50 overs to post New Zealand a challenging total in the first match of the three-match Chappell-Hadlee series. Travis Head, who is playing in his first ODI at home, gave good support for Smith with a well-played half-century. New Zealand currently hold the Chappell-Hadlee series trophy after beating Australia 2-1 in February this year.
