Coimbatore: A month has passed since the civic body registered the company, Coimbatore Smart City Limited, but neither has it convened a meeting nor started work on the smart cities project. While the central government will fund Rs200 crore, the state government is planning the organizational structure of the company and looking for ways to raise Rs100 crore for the Coimbatore Corporation. Officials said they are awaiting the state government's nod to begin operations.On the other hand, several other cities have formed their project monitoring company, held meetings and some cities have even begun calling for tenders. They also plan to set up smart poles that will not only be used for surveillance but also be installed with energy saving LED lights and have wi-fi routers which can be used by visitors. "Moreover, various details such as the organizational structure of the company, the specifications of the stake holders, their powers in the company, the verticals and other departments are being worked out.
