Smaller sections proposed for new West Coast subdivision rules

Parts of Hokitika are among the areas that have been discussed for medium-density housing zones on the West Coast. Planners working on subdivision rules for the Te Tai o Poutini Plan are suggesting a new zone for medium density housing for the West Coast, with sections sizes as small as 200 square metres. The plan will replace all the current district plans for Buller, Grey and Westland councils in a single document. Because it was a new thing for the Coast and developers were not familiar with it, medium density housing should be subject to resource consent and design guidelines, she said. Despite the demand for smaller units, developers were limited in part by boundary setback rules in the present district plans, Easton said.
