Rugby could give regional New Zealand a big economic boost if more big test matches were played outside Auckland, it has been suggested. New data shows businesses in smaller parts of the country stand to benefit the most from the "All Black effect" of having a rugby test match on local soil. A similar effect occurred in Otago, with the net spending increase of around $1.2 million, which translates into a larger percentage increase of 6.7 per cent. "In a smaller place there is a less rich choice of activity so having big things like this will have a bigger impact on the economy.
