Small business success 'shows no shortage of talented women'MARK BOWDEN/123RF Data indicates that only 48 per cent of women who own SMEs say they are the main breadwinner in the family, compared to 63 per cent of men. As a proportion of overall business owners, more women head up firms in New Zealand than in the United States, Britain or Australia. Small businesses were more likely to have embraced the option of remote working or flexible working hours, which sometimes suited women better. More than 75 per cent of small businesses owned by women are based at home, compared to 72 per cent of men's. Miranda Burdon, chief executive of of Global Women, an organisation that promotes diversity, said it seemed to underline the fact that there was no shortage of talented women.
