'Slow poison' Florence drenches Carolinas, killing at least five

Rescue and response operations are underway Saturday in the Carolinas after Tropical Storm Florence battered homes up and down the coast, killing at least five people and leaving millions of others in the dark. Authorities have confirmed five deaths and fear the number will go higher as the tropical storm crawls westward Saturday across South Carolina. North Carolina Gov. Meteorologist Ryan Maue, of weathermodels.com, calculated that Florence could dump a staggering 18 trillion gallons of rain over a week on North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia, Georgia, Tennessee, Kentucky and Maryland. North Carolina alone is forecast to get 9.6 trillion gallons, enough to cover the Tar Heel state to a depth of about 10 inches.
