Artist Maggy J with a ball made of 1001 fast fashion garments. The artist took to the streets of Nelson with a moving art piece commenting on the environmental cost of the fast fashion industry. Artist Maggie J hopes to raise awareness about the impact of fast fashion on women, human rights and the environment with her “Rolling Stone”, a massive ball of clothes destined for the dump. Made of 1001 garments and measuring around 11km when unravelled, Maggie J said she wanted to make the waste of the fast fashion industry visible. The Rolling Stone grew from an exhibition, Enough is Enough: The Fast Fashion Trap, during which she and helpers crocheted over 300 garments.
