Thousands of protesters joined a second demonstration in the capital of Slovakia over the murder of Jan Kuciak, a journalist who had uncovered fraud cases involving politically connected businessmen. The protest in Bratislava at the shooting last month threatens the government led by Robert Fico. The murder has stoked anger over cronyism in public life and President Kiska has said that the country is suffering a crisis in trust. He has called for a revamp of the three-party coalition or an early election. The country’s three highest officials — Mr Kiska, Mr Fico and Andrej Danko, the parliamentary Speaker — failed in talks to agree a written declaration to help to defuse the tensions.
