Stephens will arrive there behind strong play that has impressed tennis fans, if not downright surprised them. A stress fracture in a bone on top of her left foot required surgery in January, and Stephens didn’t play again until Wimbledon in July. For a player who missed the three majors before Wimbledon, Stephens looked perfectly comfortable. “I just have to keep it going and keep the momentum going,” Stephens said of her quality play thus far. Even in the midst of a quickly advancing comeback, Stephens prefers not to get ahead of herself.
