Motorists travelling north from Gisborne face a frustrating wait, after a slip blocked State Highway 35 (Te Araroa Rd) between Te Araroa and Tolaga Bay. There was no detour available, and the road wouldn't reopen until at least 9am on Tuesday, the New Zealand Transport Agency said. The slip was in a spot known as Goldsmiths Hill, north of Ruatoria. NZTA contractors had made the slip site secure, but would not be clearing it overnight, highway manager Wayne Oldfield said.
