Police had strongly opposed bail on the kidnap charge and Chand told police he planned the fatal attack and lied to secure bail. On the day of the attack, he went to the Marceau home carrying a knife, knocked on the door and pushed past Tracey Marceau to attack her teenage daughter. Marceau was 18 in November 2011, when she was repeatedly stabbed at home in the North Shore by Akshay Chand.​Kent Blechynden Tracey Marceau, family and friends steadfastly campaiged for changes to bail legislation.
