It suggests, as others have before, that skipping breakfast isn’t very good for the heart — in fact, it’s linked to the buildup of plaques in the arteries, which may help explain why previous epidemiological studies have linked skipping breakfast to heart risk over the years. It turned out that people who skipped breakfast and those who ate a light breakfast were more likely to have atherosclerosis than those who ate a full breakfast. Skipping breakfast may stress the body in ways that disrupt hormone function and hamper metabolism, as other researchers have suggested. So again, skipping breakfast may be more a marker of an overall lifestyle than anything else. (In fact, studies have also hinted at the ill effects of skipping breakfast in kids.)
