Skiers report long road queues leaving Mt RuapehuSUPPLIEDA great day's skiing on Mt Ruapehu ended in frustration on Sunday, with mountain-goers reporting being stuck for hours in long queues as they tried to make their way home. "We've being coming [to Mt Ruapehu] for the last five years and it's never been as cold as this. "Mt Ruapehu staff were really good - they were handing out hot chocolates and giving out information to most motorists trapped in the queue." Staff put the queues down to dangerous road conditions due to the weather and wanting to leave space between each car, to avoid collisions. "We've travelled a distance of about 1.5 km in the last 2 hours and we're still basically at the top of the mountain," said Rachel Dee, who was trapped in the queues.
