Those provisions are prized by tech companies such as Google and Redditt, who dispatched top executives to Washington this week to make the case to a House committee for preserving Section 230 of the CDA. Amid a growing swirl of noxious activity on popular social sites from cyberbullying to bogus news postings to incitements to violence, some members of Congress are questioning whether tech companies continue to merit the liability protections laid out in Section 230. "The other thing is we are having a discussion right now, an important conversation about 230," she said. "And in the midst of that conversation because of all the new developments, I think it is just inappropriate right now — at this moment — to insert this liability protection into trade agreements."
