NewsSix individuals including former Parliamentarian J Sri Ranga, who were allegedly accused of being involved in a fatal accident in 2011, were granted bail today (Oct 18). Vavuniya Magistrate Thasmila Fawzan ordered each of the suspects to be released on a cash bail of Rs 50,000, and two surety bails worth Rs 200,000 each. The Magistrate also imposed a travel ban on the suspects and ordered them to provide statements to the Police. The accident occurred when the suspects when travelling in a vehicle which had crashed onto a tree in Vavuniya, killing a constable attached to the security division of former Parliamentarian Sri Ranga. While it had been claimed that the vehicle had been driven by the deceased victim, investigations had revealed that the former parliamentarian had driven the vehicle at the time of the accident, Police spokesman Ruwan Gunasekara said in a statementThe Attorney General had instructed the Police Special Investigation Unit to produce the suspects before court over the accident.
