The first part of what will be a two-part adaptation of Stephen King’s It just crushed the weekend box office. That includes $7m in IMAX alone, which is a record for a September release and a horror movie in IMAX. So, any way you want to slice it, It just scored the biggest opening weekend ever in the Fall season. So yeah, even in terms of that pesky “tickets sold” stat, It is the biggest R-rated horror movie opening of all. It snagged the second-biggest R-rated debut ever (barely behind Deadpool’s $132 million debut weekend).
