The southbound Freeway 5 in Glendale was closed Saturday night after debris fell onto the roadway from an overpass. An apparent sinkhole that opened near the overpass caused pieces of concrete to fall onto the freeway near Western Avenue, said Sgt. The debris prompted the California Highway Patrol to issue a Sigalert around 6 p.m. and close all southbound lanes, CHP Officer Elizabeth Kravig said. She had no estimate of when the southbound freeway lanes would reopen. No debris was reported in the northbound lanes, Kravig added.
