They’ve tried everything, using sherry casks, port casks, Sauternes casks, American rye whiskey casks, wine casks, madeira casks, and more, all usually crossed with American bourbon for every imaginable - and delicious permutation. This year they have outdone themselves by partnering with Grain Surfboards of Maine to create hand-made wooden surfboards from the whisky barrels. Glenmorangie Original is a Single Malt Scotch Whisky originating in the Scottish Highlands, distilled in the tallest malt whisky stills in all of Scotland, which they claim allows only the lightest vapors to reach the top. Grain Surfboards are true experts in their field and, like us, they believe in taking time to truly understand the character of wood. Using wood from Glenmorangie casks enabled us to make a board that’s very light but very strong.
