KARACHI: The irrigation authority of Sindh has resorted to rotation programme due to an intense water shortage at barrages, reports citing sources said on Monday. The water shortage at barrages is worsening with each passing day due to reduced upstream flows, forcing the irrigation department to resort to a rotation programme to apportion limited water among all recipients in measured quantity. Presently, water shortage at Guddu and Sukkur barrages has reached 35 percent and 27 percent respectively. In a letter to IRSA, the provincial irrigation department demanded the body to stop providing river water to Chashma-Jhelum and Taunsa-Punjnad link canals. The irrigation department also demanded of IRSA to provide authentic data of water discharge from all canals.
