Scientists hope the new breath test will ultimately see cancers spotted earlier, resulting in more effective treatment and saved lives. “A breath test could be used as a non-invasive, first-line test to reduce the number of unnecessary endoscopies. Research found that half of patients with pancreatic cancer diagnosed had been found to have type 2 diabetes the year before. Among those with type 2 diabetes, a deterioration in the condition was linked to a sevenfold increased risk of having the cancer diagnosed.
