Bernardo Silva’s tweet about Manchester City team-mate Benjamin Mendy was not intentionally racist, a regulatory commission has found. Images of a young Mendy and the mascot were placed side by side in the post. Bernardo Silva has been suspended, fined and must complete face-to-face education after admitting a breach of FA Rule E3. However, the commission noted in mitigation that Silva moved quickly to delete it – taking it down within 45 minutes. City manager Pep Guardiola leapt to the defence of his player soon after the original tweet was posted.
