Sick people told to avoid Sanam Luang

The advisory from city officials came as the Peace and Order Maintaining Command assured the public that police would have no problem managing the crowds at mourning epicentre Sanam Luang and nearby Thammasat University, scene of commencement ceremonies this weekend. The deputy permanent secretary of Bangkok Metropolitan Administration, Wantanee Wattana, stated that many people were getting sick while attending the royal funeral because the weather was changing and diseases were being spread. “The Peace and Order Maintaining Command is concerned about people’s health. So we would like to ask sick people to avoid attending the ceremony at Sanam Luang and they should wait until fully recovered, as there is still plenty of time to pay respects to the late king,” Wantanee said. “For those who are already at the ceremony, if you are unwell, please do not hesitate to seek the medical service from our volunteer doctors and wear a facemask to prevent disease transmission.”
