SEREMBAN: Malaysians of Siamese descent working in the public sector will be given a day's unrecorded leave to celebrate Songkran festival from next year. Public Service director-general Datuk Seri Borhan Dolah said they would be given a day off to mark the Siamese New Year, which is celebrated on April 13 every year. "The government has agreed to grant unrecorded leave to allow those of Siamese descent to celebrate the occasion with their family," he said in a directive. Based on a census conducted in 2010, there are some 50,000 Malaysian-Siamese in the country.
