Sixteen pro-democracy members of Yau Tsim Mong District Council staged a protest outside the West Kowloon high-speed rail terminus today, demanding the station be shut down to help prevent the spread of the deadly Wuhan pneumonia, RTHK reports. They also demanded that the authorities cancel the Lunar New Year carnival planned for the holiday period at the nearby West Kowloon Cultural District. Leslie Chan, who represents the Tsim Sha Tsui West constituency, said the government’s response to the virus outbreak has been disappointing, and not enough is being done to maintain hygiene at the express rail station. A long queue of people were seen at the high-speed rail terminus on Thursday, waiting for refunds on tickets they no longer planned to use. Hong Kong health officials say they are considering whether to introduce health declaration forms for people arriving at the high-speed rail station, but they don't want to cause any delays to passengers.
