Several prominent Coast politicians who were left out in the cold after losing in the last General Election are plotting a political comeback in 2022. Omar is set to face off with Shahbal, Mvita MP Abdulswamad Shariff Nassir, Kisauni MP Ali Mbogo and deputy governor Dr William Kingi. University lecturer Dishon Mngoda said Samboja won the gubernatorial seat because Taitas and Tavetas wanted a new person. In the 2017 gubernatorial race, Dado (Jubilee party) 24,099 votes against Godhana’s (ODM) 25,663. In Kwale County, former Cabinet Minister and Wiper chairman Chirau Ali Mwakwere, is eyeing the gubernatorial seat.
