Should Trump Support Tariffs On Fast-Growing Gun Imports? Would He?


Whether intentionally or not, President Trump often confounds and shakes up traditional alliances. But here's the opportunity before the president to confound almost everyone:Firearms manufactured in this country have tripled since 1984. Is this not another example of cheap imports flooding the U.S. market, hurting U.S. manufacturers? The opportunity, then, is to stand up for U.S. gun manufacturers and stand up to foreign manufacturers by imposing tariffs. Trump has shown a willingness to do this, imposing tariffs on washing machines in an attempt to buoy Whirlpool manufacturing in the United States, at the expense of those manufactured by the South Korean companies, Samsung and LG.
