Should Ireland repeal its ban on abortion? Two voters argue their case and a woman who terminated her baby speaks out

When Ireland first held an abortion vote, in 1983, 67% of voters supported a ban, led by the Pro Life Amendment Campaign made up of Roman Catholic organisation and backed by the Pope. (Image: PA)(Image: REUTERS)(Image: REUTERS)Earlier this week myself and my co-author Sarah Breen found ourselves sharing a platform with our hero Marian Keyes, campaigning as part of Writers For Choice for a Yes vote. The No side are concerned with the right to life of the unborn, the idea of “abortion on demand”. Removing the Eighth will give Irish women a chance for a safer, more humane experience. If we repeal the 8th Amendment, it will really solidify that Ireland is not in the same place it was 50 years ago.
