Nayak had asked the board to allow him to go on leave while the board conducted an independent inquiry into the matter. Proxy shareholders believe following Nayak’s example could help Chanda set a high standard of corporate governance. Some proxy shareholders, however, believe the bank should give more information about the allegation to the public before a decision is taken.
