Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs Sameh Shoukry headed to the US on Tuesday, in response to an official invitation by Rex Tillerson, to attend a coalition meeting against the so-called “Islamic State” (IS). Kuwait’s and Turkey’s foreign ministers will also attend the meeting headed by Tillerson. This is the first meeting for the IS coalition to take place since the new US administration took over. Egypt was also on the list despite good relations with the US and the anticipated visit of President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi to Washington in April, as well as Shoukry’s recent visit to Washington. The meeting took place in Washington on 22 March.
