The December rains swept out the sea of people who usually throng the busy shopping hub of T.Nagar, while they lasted. Even after the rains subsided, this area and contiguously West Mambalam area remained flooded for days after, resembling ghost towns. A large number of the storm water drains from areas including T. Nagar, West Mambalam, K.K. “Forget about flood, the city is not even prepared to handle light showers,” says R. Sathyamurthy, a septuagenarian resident of Mahadevan Street in West Mambalam. Many parts of West Mambalam too had been completely cut off in December with knee-deep water.
