Halftime food bars in Blueberry Spice, Great Pumpkin and Chunky Choc-potle. Enter Halftime Food Bars, made by Alexandria-based Vianesa Vargas, who began making the snacks with inspiration and input from her husband, Pedro, a culinary school graduate. Vargas, a registered nutritionist, made the first batch — a spicy dark-chocolate version called Chunky Choc-potle — in 2013. The bars are based on nut or seed butters, making them feel more substantial than other snack bars we’ve tried. For a taste of autumn, we like the Great Pumpkin, a seasonal variety made with almond butter, apples, pumpkin seeds and pumpkin, all spiced with cinnamon, ginger, clove and allspice.
