Shoppers Turn Up In Droves For Black Friday: No Such Thing As 'Retail Apocalypse'

Black Friday made me a believer in retail, again. Though it’s not an official holiday, Black Friday -- the day after Turkey Day -- has become a day for companies to open at unreasonable hours, offer extraordinary deals, and give shoppers a taste of what they’ll have to offer that season. In recent years, I like to say the nation has been plagued with “Black Friday creep ,” or retailers pushing theirs deals earlier and earlier. The madness continued into Friday morning, when most every other company had opened its doors by then, sticking to Black Friday tradition. Having driven around town that Friday morning for years, observing the crowds, this year stood out to me albeit all this talk of a “retail apocalypse” and “dying malls.”
