The Salaries and Remuneration Commission has come up with a new structure shat seeks to put in check the ballooning public wage bill. SRC boss Sarah Serem said the move to slash the public wage bill by 35 percent will save Kenya over Sh8 billion a year. Some of the stipends the SRC scrapped are mileage and special responsibility allowances that it said “were prone to abuse”. Instead of mileage allowances, the commission has created zones where State officers will get a one-month allowance. Governors and their deputies will also be affected in the new structure as their allowances will be done away with.
