As the container shipping industry continues to boom, companies are adopting new technologies to move cargo faster and shifting to crewless ships. But it’s not all been smooth sailing and the future will see fewer players stay above water. The beleaguered shipping industry will now have to contend with higher insurance premiums. And 2018 was also a tragic year: In March, five crew members of the megaship Maersk Honam, owned by freight giant A.P. Moller-Maersk, died in a fire while the vessel sailed in the Arabian Sea.
