Authorities say a sheriff's deputy in northern Virginia fatally shot a man approaching him with a knife. The sheriff's office says the deputy fired a shot after the man failed to comply with his repeated orders to drop the knife. Sheriff's office spokesman Kraig Troxell says the deputy is on paid administrative leave. Authorities did not immediately release the names or races of the deputy or the man shot. When a deputy arrived, officials say the man moved toward him with a knife near the front door.
