As the fortnight turned on the Sheldon Keefe era, the Maple Leafs are on pace for an 82-point season. Three wins in a row out of the Keefe chute and it at least felt like happy days were here again. Except the Leafs, while measurably a more energized bunch, groove injected into their veins, are still maddeningly inclined to dumb and dumber. Yet in the seven games he’s played under Keefe, Matthews has tallied a mere two goals and two assists. You can live with Matthews not playing a 200-foot game, but surely he can play a better 70-foot game.
