Sheikh Hasina: India to sign two major defence deals with Bangladesh

While an umbrella agreement on defence ties will encompass all existing defence cooperation including joint exercises and training, Delhi will offer 500 mn $worth Line of Credit to Dhaka for buying defence equipment from here. India will equip the Bangladesh defence forces to meet their demand of expert training, along with technical and logistic support. India has extended 600 mn $worth defence related LoC to Vietnam and another LoC to Mauritius in the past. Defence diplomacy is emerging as key element in India’s foreign policy with Delhi eyeing to supply defence equipment to friendly countries in Southeast Asia, Africa and Latin America. It is also hoping to create synergy with countries that share common defence platform either from Russia or France.
