Bland handed Benharash two tubes from the ECMO machine and made sure there were no air bubbles in the system. “Let’s go on.”They removed the clamps, and Bland started the pump inside the ECMO machine. The carbon dioxide level in Lopez’s blood was so high it could not be accurately measured.
