Unlike Brown, who borrowed heavily from the US experience in the run-up to the 1997 election, the current shadow chancellor travels light. Leeds is one of the UK’s biggest financial centres outside London and she has been a frequent visitor to City boardrooms since becoming shadow chancellor.
