I was lucky to have a relatively positive experience in group homes growing up. I should have been in foster care. For Canadians who grew up in group homes, the depiction is not reflective of their reality. This scrutiny can be unequal, as certain placements (like group homes) can facilitate more barriers or additional questions if looking to foster children, or even adopt. When making this shift, it is important for our governments to work with people who have lived experience of group homes.
