Greens co-leader James Shaw said the decision to support the funding of a private green school in Tarakanki "was an error of judgement" and he has apologised for it. The minister said when the mayor of New Plymouth first told him about the Greens School, he saw an opportunity to support a green infrastructure economy. He understands that representatives of the Green School had approached the Crown to work on a solution, but ministers couldn't be seen to interfere with this. Supporting the school's funding was a mistake, they apologised and are trying to find a solution, she said. "Our members are united in their opposition to the recent 'shovel ready' funding decision in favour of the local Green School," it said.
