Nayland Primary School student Emily Olthof is surrounded by her friends after getting her head shaved to raise money for leukemia research. The day had dawned for the Nayland School student, who decided weeks ago to shave her head to support leukemia research. "None of my friends or family have leukemia," a speech read out by mum, Anna Bartlett, said to students, teachers and guests gathered at the Nelson primary school last Wednesday. He pledged to donate after the Year 6 student told him about her "Shave for a Cure" mission, when they were at a competition in Timaru a couple of months ago. Olthof had raised $2113.50 by last Wednesday, exceeding her target of $1000, for the Leukemia and Blood Cancer New Zealand initiative.
